Florida Sales Tax Holiday

Florida will be having a sales tax holiday starting August 7, 2015 and running through August 16, 2015. Historically, this has run in conjunction with the starting of the school year but there are opportunities for the consumer to benefit by making purchases for themselves between these dates. The qualifying items must be purchased for noncommercial home or personal use. In general, the following items will be exempt from sales tax during the holiday period but there are a lot of qualifications and exceptions as to which items actually will be exempt from sales tax:

  • Clothing, footwear, and certain clothing accessories selling for $100 or less per item.
  • Certain school supplies selling for $15 or less per item.
  • And the first $750 of the sales price of personal computers or computer related accessories purchased for personal use.

Books are not exempt from sales tax. Also, the above items are not exempt from sales tax if purchased at an amusement park, airport, and hotels/motels and temporary lodging locations providing lodging generally for less than 30 days.

Please give me a call if you have any questions or need additional information.
